Selection, simultaneous operation and supply are different questions

When a client asks for an overhead shower, hand shower and side outlet, three separate issues must be checked:

  1. Can the valve select the required functions?
  2. Can it run the desired functions at the same time?
  3. Can the building supply them at useful flow?

A product can answer the first question without guaranteeing the third.

Add the outlet demands together

If an overhead outlet is rated around 16 litres per minute and a hand shower around 8 litres per minute at the relevant design condition, simultaneous use may approach 24 litres per minute before losses. That is an example of the calculation method, not a universal requirement.

The actual check includes pipe sizes, dynamic pressure, hot-water recovery, valve capacity, pressure losses and drain capacity.

The diverter is not the whole system

The concealed body, thermostat, diverter, outlets, pipework and waste must be treated as one system. Mixing components from different ecosystems can create compatibility, warranty and service problems even when the visible controls look similar.

The right premium shower is specified from the desired experience backwards, then tested against the water and drainage available in the home.
