Start with the experience, not the trim

First decide what the user expects: overhead shower, hand shower, body outlets, simultaneous use, thermostatic control and the desired feel. Then calculate the likely demand and test it against the water supply.

The order matters

Work through:

  1. outlets and intended use;
  2. flow demand;
  3. dynamic pressure;
  4. hot-water capacity;
  5. valve and diverter functions;
  6. concealed rough-in platform;
  7. finished wall depth;
  8. pipework and losses;
  9. drainage and falls;
  10. finish and service record.

Changing the visible trim at the end cannot repair a supply that was never capable of feeding the experience.

Keep the ecosystem coherent

Hansgrohe, AXOR, GROHE and VADO use different platforms and specifications. Do not combine a thermostat, rough-in body, trim and diverter because the finishes appear visually similar. Confirm compatibility from the exact manufacturer documents.
