The rough wall is not the finished wall
Concealed shower mixers are chosen for their clean appearance, but the visible trim is only the final part of the installation. The concealed body has to sit at the correct depth behind the finished surface.
That depth is affected by the wall construction, waterproofing, adhesive, tile thickness and any other finish layers. A measurement taken from the brickwork or board alone does not tell you where the trim will finally sit.
Product ranges have different tolerances
The required finished-wall range belongs to the exact mixer body and trim set. Exposed and concealed mixers are not interchangeable, and visually similar products can have different inlet arrangements, depth requirements and service procedures.
The manufacturer’s installation drawing should be used before plumbing starts. It should also be checked against the selected tile, because a thick porcelain tile and a thin wall tile create different finished dimensions.
Pressure and inlet direction still matter
A concealed mixer needs suitable hot and cold connections, correct inlet orientation and a water supply that matches its working requirements. A premium shower head can also demand more flow than an ordinary outlet.
If the mixer is part of a system with a hand shower, body jets or multiple outlets, the pipework and pressure losses need to be considered together. The visible control cannot compensate for an undersized or poorly planned supply.
Protect the body before the wall closes
During construction, the concealed body should be protected from dust, debris and impact. Pipework should be flushed before cartridges and finishing components are fitted. Before tiling, confirm the body position, waterproofing detail and finished levels.
The best concealed installation is the one that looks effortless after the wall is closed because the difficult decisions were made beforehand.
