A freestanding mixer still needs a future plan
The visible column beside a bath can make the installation look simple. Its fixing, water connection, cartridge and service route are hidden below or inside the fitting. If those details are ignored, a future repair may involve disturbing the floor or moving the bath.
Separate installation from service access
The manufacturer’s basic set determines how the mixer is fixed and connected. The product manual should also be checked for how the cartridge, hose, aerator or internal valve is reached later.
Do not assume that removing the decorative sleeve provides access to every service part.
Record what is below the finish
Before the screed and final floor are closed, photograph the fixing and pipe route, record the mixer and basic-set SKUs, and note any isolation points. Keep the installation guide and exploded spare-parts drawing in the handover file.
The bath position matters too. Leave enough clearance to clean around the column, remove the trim and work without damaging the bath or finished floor.
Questions to settle before installation
- Can the visible fitting be removed without destroying the floor?
- Is the cartridge identifiable and available?
- Where can the water be isolated?
- Does the basic set match the exact mixer and finish?
- Can the bath waste and mixer both be serviced?
A freestanding bath mixer is a luxury feature only if it remains understandable and repairable after the installation team has gone.
