An LED mirror, heated towel rail, extractor fan, underfloor heating or smart toilet can be a useful part of a premium bathroom. Each item needs a power route, control position and access arrangement that should be coordinated before the walls and ceiling are finished.
The electrician must determine the compliant installation method. Homeowners should not rely on a bathroom fitting’s appearance to decide whether its proposed position is safe.
Coordinate the services as one room
The mirror must align with the basin and tap. The towel rail needs a practical location away from splash and door movement. The extractor needs a suitable route and replacement air. A concealed transformer or power supply must remain accessible where the product requires it.
These decisions also affect the tiler, cabinet installer, plumber and glass specialist. A power point hidden behind a vanity drawer or a mirror cable emerging through the wrong tile line is usually a coordination failure rather than a product failure.
Bathroom zones and protection matter
Bathroom electrical work must account for wet-area zones, suitable equipment ratings, earthing and earth-leakage protection, as well as the applicable South African requirements. A registered electrician should perform and certify the electrical installation where required.
Do not treat a standard household extension lead or an unprotected connection as a permanent bathroom solution.
Plan access and handover information
Before closing the wall or ceiling, confirm cable routes, mounting support, isolators, access panels and the location of any transformers or controls. Keep product manuals and electrical certificates with the renovation records.
The finished room should look uncluttered because the services were resolved early, not because they were hidden without a maintenance plan.
