The handle is not the whole shower system
An iBox, SmartBox or other concealed rough-in body sits behind the finished wall and provides the connection platform for the visible control or trim. It is part of the engineering, not just a hidden accessory.
The exact body must match the brand, product family, functions, installation depth and finish set selected for the room.
Why the decision happens before tiling
The body is positioned before the final wall thickness exists. Waterproofing, board, adhesive, tile or slab thickness all affect where the finished control will land. If the trim is selected later without checking the rough-in, the result may be out of range, proud of the wall or impossible to service correctly.
Some systems are designed around a manufacturer’s own platform. A similar-looking trim from another brand is not automatically interchangeable.
Keep the record before the wall closes
Photograph the installed body, record the SKU, note the pipe connections and retain the installation manual. A future owner or technician should be able to identify what is behind the wall without removing the finished surface.
Concealed design is successful when the wall looks simple because the hidden platform was selected and documented properly.
