One cleaning tip cannot cover every finish
The researched manufacturer guidance is not identical. Some ranges permit a controlled mild citric approach for limescale, while other finishes specify a soft damp cloth and prohibit acids, abrasives or aggressive chemicals.
“Use vinegar on all bathroom taps” is therefore unsafe advice.
Why the finish changes the answer
Chrome, PVD, matt, painted and other decorative surfaces respond differently to acids, abrasives and concentrated products. Even a finish marketed as durable can be damaged by the wrong chemical, leaving marks that are outside the warranty.
The correct care sheet belongs to the exact SKU and finish, not simply the showroom category “luxury tap”.
A sensible owner’s routine
Wipe water from the fitting with a soft cloth, use only the approved product and method, rinse when instructed, and avoid applying cleaner directly into openings or joints. Keep the manufacturer’s care document with the handover records.
If limescale is persistent, identify the product first rather than escalating to a stronger chemical. Good maintenance is part of specifying the finish honestly.
