Large-format porcelain can be used to create a calm shower wall with fewer joints, but the answer is not simply a yes or no based on tile size. The exact product and shower construction determine whether the choice is appropriate.
Shower walls and shower floors are different
A large tile may suit a shower wall while a smaller or differently finished product is better on the floor. The floor has to form falls toward the drain and handle wet walking conditions; the wall needs suitable support, waterproofing and service coordination.

The wall must be ready
Large pieces expose hollows, high points and changes of plane. The substrate needs to meet the relevant preparation requirements, and the adhesive system needs to provide the intended contact and support.
Waterproofing around mixers, niches, benches, wastes and changes of plane remains separate from the visible tile.
Access and handling still apply
The piece has to get into the property, around the bathroom and onto the prepared wall without damage. Thin or very large material may require specialist equipment and a controlled fixing sequence.
The answer belongs to the complete system
Large tile can be a very good shower-wall choice when the product and installation plan support it. The successful result comes from coordinating the material, wall, waterproofing, adhesive, layout and fittings before work begins.
