A colour is not a finish specification
Two bathroom fittings may both be described as black, brass or bronze while using different surface technologies. PVD, plated, coated and painted finishes can have different cleaning instructions, resistance and warranty conditions.
The visible colour is only the start of the product decision.
Why PVD is discussed differently
Physical vapour deposition is a vacuum coating process used on some premium fittings. It can create a durable coloured surface, but it does not make a fitting immune to damage, harsh chemicals, scratching or poor installation.
The exact product and manufacturer’s care guidance remain important. A PVD finish should not be treated as permission to use abrasive pads or aggressive descalers.
Coastal air adds a maintenance consideration
Durban and the KZN coast expose bathroom fittings to moisture and, in some locations, salt-laden air. Suitable product selection, ventilation, drying and gentle cleaning all contribute to the life of the finish.
This does not mean every coloured fitting is unsuitable for a coastal home. It means the finish and maintenance routine should be chosen with the environment in mind.
Specify the care information at handover
Keep the product model, finish, warranty and cleaning instructions with the bathroom records. If a fitting is replaced later, the correct finish can be matched more reliably.
The premium result is not just the day the brass or black hardware is installed. It is how confidently the homeowner can look after it afterwards.
