A freestanding bath tap often looks like a simple vertical column. Its stability and service connections depend on what happens below the finished floor, including the basic set, fixing depth, levelling and pipe route.
That makes it a construction decision before it becomes a styling decision.
The bath and mixer must be designed as a pair
Confirm the bath rim height, filler projection, water landing point, overflow, waste access and the clearance needed to clean between the column and bath. A tap can be technically upright yet deliver water too close to the edge or too far into the bowl.
The exact mounting depth belongs to the chosen product. Manufacturer examples across Hansgrohe, AXOR, GROHE and VADO use different basic sets and installation ranges.
Finish levels are not approximate
The rough body must be positioned against the final floor build-up, not an assumption about the eventual screed or tile thickness. Keep the manual and record the position before the floor is closed.
Choosing the mixer after screeding can force compromises in height, fixing or pipe access. Luxury detailing works best when the hidden base is specified at the same time as the bath and finished floor.
