An integrated smart toilet combines the pan, seat, wash functions and electronics in one designed product. A retrofit shower seat adds functions to an existing pan. Both can be useful, but they create different requirements for compatibility, power, water, service and future replacement.
Integrated systems
An integrated product can provide a cleaner visual result and better coordination between the ceramic, seat and controls. If an electronic component fails, however, the replacement route may depend heavily on the manufacturer and local support.
Retrofit seats
A retrofit seat may be easier to replace or add later, but the pan shape, hinge spacing, water supply, electrical route and available clearance must suit the selected seat. It can also change the finished height and appearance.
Compare the service path
Ask who services the product, whether filters and valves are stocked, how the seat is removed and what happens during a power interruption. Keep model and serial information in the handover.
Choose the household’s priority
The integrated option may suit a new high-end ensuite with planned services. A retrofit may suit an existing bathroom where the owner wants a wash function without rebuilding the entire room.
The better decision is the one that remains usable and serviceable after the novelty has passed.
